Easter Weekend winners at Ipswich CC

A small field on Easter Sunday for the Association Croquet event saw Celia Pearce defeat Martin Leach in the final, to win the Wood Trophy.  Then on Easter Monday, a full event saw fellow long-time member Jill Waters will the bottle of win prize for the Golf Croquet event.  Congratulations to Celia and Jill, who have both been playing croquet at Ipswich for 30 years!

Celia Pearce wins the Dog Day Trophy

Our winter programme of events (2-4 days of competition a month) ended with a new name on the trophy: Celia Pearce, who had gained 19 points from 3 wins and a 2nd place in the series of one-day events from November to March.  Next in line were Martin Hart (17pts), Martin French (14pts and winner for past 2 winters) and Georgeen Hemming (13pts).

Race hots up for Dog Day Trophy

With just one last Winter Weekend to play before the new summer season starts, the winter-long Dog Day Trophy is reaching a crescendo!  With points for places at every winter event, the front runners are neck and neck.  Celia Pearce's win at the AC day on 8th March means she now leads on 19 points, followed by Martin Hart on 15, Martin French on 14, Georgeen Hemming on 13 and David Crawford on 12.  Paul Homer won the GC day on 7th March, but trails with 10pts total.  With 10 points available to anyone who can win both AC and GC days this coming weekend, the trophy could be anyone's.

New website for Ipswich Croquet Club

After creating a new website to coincide with our move to Fynn Valley in 2012, our webmaster Martin Leach has now re-vamped the site completely, offering a fresher, simpler look.  Let us know what else you would like to find on the club's website.

Ipswich CC win the 2014 East Anglian Golf Croquet League!

After winning the EACF GC handicap league in 2013, this season we went one better and won the EACF GC level play league.  Given there are several clubs much larger than ours in these leagues, this is a very good effort.

On 28th September 2014, our team beat Northampton 10-6 in a gripping final at Chelmsford.  Our team was "David and the Martinis" (copyright Pat) - David Crawford, and Martins: Leach, Hart and French. In earlier rounds, our team has also included Jarrod Coutts, Mark Avery, Colin Hemming and Simon Riley.

Congratulations to all those who helped us get to this great result. 

Ipswich wins East Anglian league

A team from Ipswich has won the East Anglian Croquet Federation golf croquet league, beating Enfield on the final hoop of the tie-breaker yesterday at Leighton-Linslade in a very close and exciting final.  Enfield have won 3 of the past 4 years and were clear favourites.

First, Ipswich won 3 of its 4 league matches and drew the 4th, to win the northern area.  Then on 17th September, we beat Watford (western area winners) in the semi-final and on the 24th, Enfield (eastern area) in the final.

The team for the last two matches was Pam Plumbly, Celia Peace, Jill Waters and Martin French.  Teams for the earlier rounds had also included Peter Allnutt, Martin Hart, Simon Riley, Martin Leach and Steve Miller.  A great effort by all nine Ipswich players.

East Anglia GC League

After 4 successful matches during the season against other clubs in the Northern area of the East Anglian League (won 3, drew 1), today we played Watford in the semi-finals between the 4 areas.  An exciting close match, it ended 9 games all.  So into a 3 hoop tie break - which Ipswich won on the final hoop!

So now next Tuesday, we play the final against Enfield at Leighton-Linslade.  Odd, I didn't think Watford, Enfield or Leighton-Linslade were in East Anglia at all!
